Miley Cyrus is Insane.

From her gyrating hips, low dips and inability to sing, Miley Cyrus shocked the world last night at the MTV Video Music Awards 2013. My mother and I were speechless as we saw ginormous bears, strapped on the backs of grown women, bouncing and grinding around the stage. Miley – single handedly – took the song of the summer, Robin Thicke featuring Pharrell Williams and T.I.’s Blurred Lines, and butchered it with her unsteady, out of breathe vocals.

No one really knows what was going through her mind as she performed so vulgarly. Evidently, her nude two piece is a replica from Robin Thicke’s PG version of the Blurred Lines Video, but besides that I was completely lost. Initially when I watched Miley’s video for We Can’t Stopย I gave her the benefit of the doubt. Loving the melody of the song, I began to think long and hard about her motives. It could be possible that she was making a parody of other pop artists’s videos, like Lady Gaga and Katy Perry, who often create fantasies, whimsical stories, or cutting edge cinematography videos. However, Miley isn’t that smart, and I doubt the people who represent her are either. Clearly, there is no explanation for her insane video or performance last night.

She left me completely shocked, and wondering, “Did Robin Thicke know Miley was going to perform this way? Where is Robin’s wife in the audience? I would love to see a pan of her reaction, live on television, to this twenty something slut-show with horns”.

I think she is bordering a very fine line with her new “ratchet” look. It looks really odd that someone who has been extremely wealthy her whole life is emulating a culture of financially struggling individuals of a minority race. Is it racism? I don’t know…but look at how pleased Rihanna looks! (Sarcasm..obviously)

    • Dee says:

Oh Cammie. I completely agree, my friend Megan posted some really amazing articles below that bring that racism to light. I agree that Miley is “allowed” to exploit her own body, but not that of others, and especially not that of African American Women. In the video they teach her how to twerk it, but at the MVAs they just stand aside until she literally puts her face in their ass. I’m speechless when it comes to this, as it is beyond inappropriate and MTV is HUGELY at fault for allowing her to do this on international television.

  2. I think it’s a bit of Miley trying to make parody’s, but I also agree she could just be random and unexplainable.

Thank-you for commenting Andrew! I think that she is trying to push the boundaries, just like Madonna, and Lady Gaga do, but she does it in completely inappropriate ways.

These are fantastic reads, and really bring to light the fact that she is exploiting the African American female body. So interesting, and thanks for sharing!!

I read this article earlier today, which goes hand-in-hand with what I was thinking…

Sadly…I don’t think she is the first one to do this. Unfortunately, Miley is a bigger “star” than most other white women who are trying for the same thing (i.e. Kreayshawn and Debbie Cakes), and so she is going to be slammed for it way harder. Although, I’m not sure of the upbringings of those other ladies I named. Either way…yeah, unfortunately her new image is eclipsing what I thought to be relatively listenable music. Shame!

      Nicely put Cams! ๐Ÿ™‚

Iโ€™ve never been a big of Miley but Iโ€™m feeling kind of bad for her now after how bad sheโ€™d been blasted for that performance. Iโ€™m sure sheโ€™s beyond mortified at this point. At the end of the day sheโ€™s still a young girl in my eyes and unaware of the consequences of her actions. I donโ€™t even know if I can fully hold her accountable for those actions since her image is probably handled by a posse of people. I mean the act she put on was most definitely choreographed by some sort of professional and rehearsed multiple times and approved by mtv. All those people knew what they were doing. As a publicity stunt they did wonders, she did steal the show. Look at all the memes, video responses and #hashtags she caused. She took over the internet today, everyone knows who she is now. So maybe it is a win-win for her in the long run? Questionable? The most interesting aspect about this whole debacle to me is how much of this was manufactured by her publicist and Miley Empire and was this the way they intended this to turn out?

    • Dee says:

You’re completely right! I know that there were many people behind her, guiding and directing this awful display, but at the same time you need to take accountability for yourself. That video was enough at this point, it already did everything that the live show did – projecting this bad girl, druggie image. It’s hard to say who makes the decisions at the end of the day for pop stars, but she is a person with a brain.

      Thanks for reading !!

      • tinseletsawdust says:

Agreed. Brains? questionable haha Example: predecessor britney spears? I sometimes if certain people are chosen to be made famous because their minds are the ones that are easily molded/folded/imploded.

      • Dee says:

Definitely, so we agree that Miley does not have a brain of her own and is at the will of her publicist(s). LOL ๐Ÿ™‚

Oh well, maybe one day she’ll learn, or end up in rehab like all the other young stars. (Including Gaga, so we hear).
