I tend to keep 5-10 books on hand, or in my “back pocket” as suggestions for my friends when they ask me, “what book should I read?” I don’t know if this responsibility comes with my degrees in English Literature, but I accept the task whole heartedly because I get to advertise my favourite reads.
Some of my most cherished books, and the ones that have a front seat on my book shelf in my bedroom – rather than a spot hidden away in my trunk in the basement – are:
The Raw Shark Texts by Steven Hall
Brave New World by Aldous Huxley
Dracula by Bram Stoker
1984 by George Orwell
House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski
The Sentimentalists by Johanna Skibsrud
Everything is Illuminated by Jonathan Safran Foer
Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran Foer (For the record it was PRE HOLLYWOOD MOVIE that I loved this novel)
The Divine Ryans by Wayne Johnston
Faustus by David Mamet
The Subterraneans by Jack Kerouac (A romance with an On the Road feel)
Meridian by Alice Walker
I couldn’t resist writing a 2nd post about books this week since it’s International Book Week! I don’t think books get celebrated enough. So, while you keep yourself busy reading my top 10 – okay, 12 – choices…let me know what you think!!
I could go on all night, but the Emmy’s red-carpet/pre-show is on in the background and I can’t stop watching…
